Siv Misund

"Misund has glorious lower and middle registers, creamy and darkly sexy, but she also has a lively top and encompassed the challenges of the Veil Song with ease. This was a very complete Eboli, sexy, jealous, political yet softly human and needing to be loved. A vibrantly mesmerising performance."

 -Robert Hughill -

Praised for her warm, luscious timbre, seamless technique and captivating stage presence, Norwegian mezzo soprano Siv Misund is one to watch of the new generation of dramatic voices emerging from the Nordic countries. Her voice is reminiscent of the golden era of opera.

She earned great acclaim for her debut as Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana with Ringsaker

Operaen. A critic wrote; «her voice… was so heartbreakingly beautiful as to be almost unbearable.»

Misund placed second in The 2017 Fulham Opera Robert Presley Memorial Verdi Prize which led to 2018 engagements as Azucena in Il Trovatore with Winslow Hall Opera and Eboli in Don Carlo with Fulham Opera.

Misund’s recent engagements include a gripping performance of the title role in Rape of Lucretia at the Norwegian National Opera. She sang Dryade in the North Norwegian Opera’s star-studded production of Ariadne auf Naxos, as well as 3rd lady in a modernist production of Magic Flute with Opera Trøndelag.

She is also an avid concert singer, enjoying programing new art song repertoire in her recitals. Misund sang in «Hidden Too Long: Black Women in Song» at London’s Steinway Hall in 2017.  This collaboration connected her with Nadine Benjamin, Allyson Devenish, Errollyn Wallen and Michael Harper to rediscover Afro British and Afro American female composers.

Misund completed The Norwegian Academy of Music MFA degree in 2007. She won the Ellen Kirby Smith Rice Scholarship to Princeton’s CoOPERAtive program 2010. In 2011 Misund won the KammerOper Schloss Rheinsberg prize which earned her the role of Nutrice in L’incoronatione de Poppea which was well received.

Her other roles include Ulrica (Un ballo in Maschera), Dinah (Trouble in Tahiti), Flosshilde (Das Rheingold), Zita, (Giannis Schicchi), Frugola (Il Tabarro), Zia Principessa (Suor Angelica), and Witch (Hansel und Gretel).

Misund has worked with Bergen National Opera, North Norwegian Opera and Symphony Orchestra (NOSO), Oslo Opera Festival and Live Opera in Oslo, and many more houses and festivals.

She trains with London-based voice teacher Michael Harper, with coach John Lidal and most recently Dolora Zajick. She has also worked with prominent professionals including Fiorenza Cossotto, Trish McCaffrey, Laura Brooks Rice, Anthony Manoly and John Fiore.
